A strategic facility for tourism in the region, Salvador Airport enhanced its capacity and operational safety in a complex project with very demanding requirements.
Vinci Airports, through the Concessionária do Aeroporto de Salvador, S.A, entrusted Engexpor with the project and works management to remodel and enlarge Salvador International Airport, the largest and busiest airport in the state of Bahia, in Brazil.
In an investment that totals approximately 600 million reais (equivalent to 149.6 million euros), the project involves the expansion of the passenger terminal, the installation of six new boarding gates (from the current 11 to 17) and the remodeling and enlargement of the runways.
The works, which are intended to increase the airport’s capacity and operational safety and enhance levels of passenger comfort, also include improvements to the lighting, air conditioning and ventilation systems, as well as the modernization of escalators, bathrooms and baby-changing facilities. The renovated area comprises 61,000 square meters of Gross Built Area.
“Singing the contract with Vinci Airports is evidence of our ability and specialist knowledge for dealing with large-scale works, with a complete quality and safety guarantee for our clients. This is a big investment in construction and a very demanding project, with extremely tight deadlines, carried out while the airport was in operation,” says Miguel Alegria, CEO of Engexpor.
A strategic piece of infrastructure for Salvador’s tourism industry, the Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport is the largest and busiest in the state of Bahia and is among the busiest in Brazil. It is being enlarged and renovated, with the addition of an extra 20,000 m², a significant expansion to increase its commercial and flight capacity, through attracting more flights, airlines and passengers.
The works have a 20-month execution deadline, with completion forecast for the first half of 2019.
