A technically complex project, the building of this healthcare facility required the use of innovative and demanding construction techniques, as well as extensive urban renewal in the surrounding area
José de Mello Saúde entrusted Engexpor with the project and works management for the new CUF Tejo Hospital, currently under construction in Alcântara. It comprises more than 75,000 square meters, six above-ground and four underground floors, including three for parking with more than 800 spaces.
The development of the new hospital unit represents an investment of more than 100 million euros for José de Mello Saúde. Its construction includes an urban renewal complex in the surrounding area that will feature a new garden, a rebuilt pedestrian crossing between the Cascais line and Avenida de Brasília, and the diversion of traffic from Avenida da Índia.
“This is a large and technically complex project that used demanding construction techniques required by the monitoring and supervision of the works. The buried reinforced concrete structure was partially executed using the top-down methodology, due to the location’s geology and its proximity to the river Tagus”, explains Miguel Alegria, CEO of Engexpor.
A facility focused on medicine of the future
Designed by architect Frederico Valsassina, the building was planned from scratch to be a highly differentiated multi-purpose hospital, in a clear investment infrastructure and technical means. It will be focused on the so-called medicine of the future, specializing in areas such as oncology, neuroscience, cardiovascular, lungs and ophthalmology.
In the 31,000 square meters exclusively dedicated to clinical care, the new health facility will feature 100 consulting rooms and more than 60 rooms for exams and treatment, as well as 11 Block rooms, 200 in-patient beds and 14 intensive care beds.

We previously provided services for the expansion of the CUF Descobertas Hospital, located in the Park of the Nations. The development enlarged this private health facility by 22,000 m2 with the construction of a new building.
