1984 – Engexpor is founded
This is when our history begins, a solid path marked by continuous growth that has made us today a reference for project and construction management with a presence on 3 continents.
1985 – Strong activity in Offices and Bank Branches
Portugal joins the European Union (at the time named European Economic Community). This opened up the country to the world, to foreign investment and to the entry of international companies that provided Engexpor new opportunities in the real estate sector.
We participated in the development of diverse real estate projects for Office Buildings, as well as the expansion of several branches of the main banks.
1993 – Entry into the shopping center sector
Coimbra Shopping, one of the first new generation shopping centers in Portugal, opened the way for our growth in this sector.
Over the course of two decades, the shopping center industry in Portugal has been notable for its strong growth and for the excellence of its developments, winners of international recognition and awards. We have taken part in many of these prestigious projects, carried out by strong developers such as Sonae Sierra, MDC, Inter IKEA, Chamartin Inmobiliaria, Bouygues Imobiliária, Mundicenter or Immocham, and went along with some of these companies as they expanded internationally.
1994 – Expo’98 brings new opportunities
The world fair EXPO’98 was awarded to Lisbon, and with it the urban and real estate component assumed a prominent role, both in the buildings and infrastrutures that were built to organize the world exhibition and in the projects that followed, characterized by an unprecedented urban renewal in the capital that changed the face of the eastern part of the city. We were strongly involved in both, and our brand is associated to a good number of unique and iconic projects.
We are still very active in this area, now known as Parque das Nações, where we are managing several projects, mostly in the office sector.
1997 – Expansion into Brazil
In this expansion we followed the internationalization of our clients Sonae Distribuição and Sonae Sierra. Driven by economic recovery, operations in this country have been strengthened since 2011. Our name has become associated with prestigious developments carried out in various states in many diverse sectors: shopping centers, cathedrals, hotels, wind farms, logistics parks, infrastructure, and the Salvador International Airport.
1999 – We began to operate in Mozambique
Always aligned with the country development cycles, we strengthened our presence in Mozambique in 2011 by assuming the project and construction management for the new headoffice of Bank BCI and in the expansion of its branch network. We were also involved in coordinating the masterplan for the Maputo Waterfront Project, undertaken by Constellation, in the development of a multi-use complex in Palma, in the north of Mozambique, as well as opening a chain of duty free shops in Maputo airport for an international group.
2004 – Entry in the Angolan market
We continued to consolidate our internationalization process to accompany our client Banco BFA (Banco BPI group) in the construction of its extensive network of bank branches throughout the country, where we are also responsible for managing the maintenance of all the bank’s buildings and facilities. Angola is an important market where we have registered sustained growth, which intensified from 2006 onward. Since then, we have added to our portfolio prestigious projects developed by well-known Angolan and international companies.
2007 – We expanded our presence in Europe
We entered the Romanian market, where the shopping center sector was experiencing growth. Our first project was carried out for our client Sonae Sierra, but shortly afterward we gained the trust of local developers, with whom we have worked on other projects.
2009 – Projects in Italy and Spain
We expanded our business into Italy with the construction of a shopping center in Palermo, and Spain, where we participated in projects in Madrid and Coruña.
2011 – Strengthening of business in international markets
Driven by the slowdown of the economic activity in Portugal, we strengthened our presence in Angola, Mozambique and Brazil, leading the company to consolidate as an international group.
Engexpor registered rapid growth in the Brazilian market, and became a reference company in the country’s private sector.
2015 – Business in Portugal returns to growth
As the Portuguese real estate market recovered, we re-established a significant presence in the country, where we have been associated with important real estate and engineering projects.
2019 – We changed our image
We introduce ourselves to the market with a new image that reflects our culture of modernity, innovation and proximity to our Clients.
2021 – Launch of New Services
Aware of the future of the real estate and construction, we created new solutions for our Clients. We launched DCS – Digital Construction Services– with services, digital applications, and BIM tools that help companies respond to the challenges of technology and innovation; and we reinforced our services with the areas of Environmental & Sustainability Advisory Services, helping our clients to grow sustainably, and Technical & Urban Advisory Services, supporting the decisions of investors and real estate developers.
