Project management for 266 Liberdade awarded to Engexpor

Built to house the Diário de Notícias newspaper, 266 Avenida da Liberdade is being converted into a luxury residential building, where all the characteristic artistic and architectural elements will be preserved

Engexpor was the company chosen by the Avenue to carry out the project and works management for the refurbishment of this iconic building that for years housed the “Diário de Notícias” newspaper, at 266 Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon.

A historic building, winner of the Valmor Prize in the year of its inauguration, it was built in the 1940s to house the Diário de Notícias newspaper. It is now being renovated and transformed into a residential building. 266 Liberdade brings to Lisbon’s main and most prestigious avenue 34 luxury apartments, a store on the first floor and a private parking garage with 47 spaces. Its signature property and one of the most exclusive houses for sale in the capital is the 5-bedroom residence on the top floor – a penthouse measuring 408 m², with four en-suites, an exterior terrace measuring 416 m² and an interior terrace.

With a Gross Built Area that covers 8,400 m2, the work began in the third quarter of this year. Its completion is expected in 2020.

Restoring the history and culture of a Lisbonite symbol

Built between 1936 and 1940 and designed by architect Pardal Monteiro, it stood out as the first modern building on Avenida da Liberdade. It is a building rich in history containing some works from Almada Negreiros, created especially for this space, including the “Great Planisphere” or the “Four allegories to Portugal and the Press”, which will be preserved.

All the original and characteristic architectural elements, such as façades, stairs, handrails in their original color, stone walls, corridors, the original elevator and the wooden revolving entrance door that leads to Avenida da Liberdade will be maintained.
