Engexpor took charge of project management for the sixth phase of expansion at Iguatemi Fortaleza Shopping, which comprised 200 stores on two new floors and 2,600 new parking spaces. Designed by the La Guarda Low architecture studio, the project won the 2015 Abrasce award in the Expansion/Renovation category. It brought to life a concept that creates circular movement and affords a coexistence court with the largest wooden covering in the country, with architectural beauty that enchants its visitors.
Inaugurated in 1982, Iguatemi Fortaleza was one of the first shopping centers in the state of Ceará. Considered a commercial landmark in this region, it strengthened commerce where it was built and in the surrounding area, the Guararapes neighborhood, which today is one of the most valuable and tree-lined in the city of Fortaleza.
With more than 450 shops and kiosks that contain a complete mix of shopping, leisure, gastronomy and services in Fortaleza over more than 92,000 square meters, Iguatemi is the largest and most diverse meeting place in the city. It also boasts a strong commitment to sustainability: it reuses 100% of the waste water used at the Shopping Center and ensure the environmentally friendly disposal of more than 60 tons of solid waste per month at its recycling center.
